Bedford County, VA Youth Football…Boonsboro Broncos improve to 3-1
Game 4 is officially over and we are now 3-1. We were able to pull off another second half victory against the S C& G 7-8 team from Stanton River with a score of 20-13. We jumped out to a 6-0 lead after our first possession, however on the their first play from scrimmage, their QB took it outside , broke a few tackles and just like that we were down 6-7. We came back possession two and we scored to make t 12-7 before half-time. They get the ball after the break and score to make it 13-12. We drive down and score to make it 20-13 just in the 4th quarter. On their next drive their QB breaks another run. However, when he is at our 20 yard line, he drops the ball. No one is around him, my kids are chasing him 10 yards behind the play. Fortunately, we recover his fumble and then grind out 3 first downs to kill the remaining 5 minutes of the game for the victory.
See the picture below of my son (81) getting ready to make some tackles and celebrating on a fumble.

Worst Places in America to Live, Cleveland Ohio
Cleveland, Ohio has been ranked the second worst place to live in the US. I can certainly relate to the “mistake by the lake” more than you know. San Diego may even trump Cleveland for me. See the bottom of this post for the complete article and the other cities that made the list.
2. Cleveland, Ohio
Population: 431,363
LeBron James isn’t the only person leaving Cleveland. The U.S. Census estimated that 2,658 people left the city in 2009, the largest numerical drop among America’s major cities.
Forbes also put Cleveland atop its list of most miserable U.S. cities, factoring in its high unemployment (although at 9.1% it’s below the national average), high taxes, lousy weather, political corruption and lousy sports teams — and that was before LeBron decided to leave.
Weather is a big factor, according to Forbes. Located on the south shore of Lake Erie, Cleveland gets hit by lake-effect snow, averaging almost 60 inches of the stuff every winter. Its frigid winters help produce an average annual temperature of only 50 degrees, 10 degrees below the average of the 50 cities measured by Forbes.
Nicknamed the “Mistake by the Lake,” Cleveland ranked near the bottom when looking at corruption on the Forbes list. “Northern Ohio has seen 309 public officials convicted of crimes over the past 10 years,” according to the Forbes story, which cites data from the Justice Department. “A current FBI investigation of public officials in Cuyahoga County (where Cleveland is located) has ensnared more than two dozen government employees and businessmen on charges including bribery, fraud and tax evasion.”
Cleveland also ranks in the top third of all metro areas for foreclosure rates. The city has thousands of abandoned homes, in part because it provided down payments through the federally-funded Afford-a-Home program to many people who could not afford their mortgage payments

Boonsboro Broncos improve to 2-1, with a 20-16 Win
After a two and a half week break, game 3 is in the books and we are now 2-1. We were able to pull off a 4th quarter comeback against the Bedford Cubs and win 20-16. We jumped out to a 6-0 lead with about 3 minutes before the half. However, on a 4th and 12 they broke a 50 yard run with less than a minute in the half and took a 8-6 lead. The Cubs got the ball back after the break, and again they were able to drive it and break a run for a second touchdown to go up 16-6. There was about 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter when we got the ball back. We drove down the field and scored to make it 16-12 with 4 minutes in the game. On the kick-off our guys tackled the runner and caused a fumble, and we recovered. 4 plays later our team was able to rip off a 40 yard run to take the lead 20-16. The Cubs got the ball back and ran about 8 plays before time ran out. Those 8 plays seemed like forever, because in Pee-wee football any play can be a touchdown. See the picture below of my son (81) getting ready to make a big tackle, and then later in the game almost recover a fumble. He almost had an onside kick recovery as well, but lost it when the pile jumped on him.

Boonsboro Broncos versus Heritage Pioneers Scrimmage
Well we have had 2 1/2 weeks off do to the schedule we received. We scheduled two scrimmages to keep the kids engaged. This past week we scrimmaged one of the city teams, the Heritage Pioneers 7-8 year old team. The kids did well, but the most exciting thing was they were able to play on astroturf. That was a huge deal for the young kids. Below are a few shots of Dawson playing his right defensive end position. He did well getting up the field and usually drawing 2 blockers, so the linebacker could try to make the play.
Our next game is this Saturday, so I will keep you posted…we play the Bedford Cubs.
