Spiritually Sick or Healthy
Dear ____________(fill in the blank),
Maybe you don’t feel you deserve to go to heaven with your past failures or that you don’t measure up. I want you to know that God is clear He came for people just like you and me…He did not come for the perfect or righteous people. In the bible, Mark chapters 2 versus 13-17 say: (focus on verse 17)
13Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. 14As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the “sinners” and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and ’sinners’?”
17On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
God wants to have a relationship with us. He did not create us to be isolated from Him. Look at it in context of a relationship with you and maybe your children. You did not create your child just so you could isolate him/her from yourself. No, you had him/her so you could have a long, loving relationship with them. God is no different, He wants a relationship with you and Satan doesn’t want you to believe that. One of the most effective lies Satan tells people is “God doesn’t want you…your not good enough”. You don’t have to be good enough…that is why God extends us GRACE. The dictionary defines grace as: mercy; clemency; pardon. You and I or anyone else that is seeking God get a pardon. That is why Jesus came to die on the cross, so you and I could have a pardon. All we have to do is pray and confess that we are a sinner and that we want Jesus to come into our heart and believe that He rose from the dead 3 days later. It is that simple. Guess what…God knows you are a sinner, but He wants you anyway.
“The grace or love of God, whence cometh our salvation, is FREE IN ALL, and FREE FOR ALL…. It is free in all to whom it is given. It does not depend on any power or merit in man; no, not in any degree, neither in whole, nor in part. It does not in anywise depend either on the good works or righteousness of the receiver; not on anything he has done, or anything he is. It does not depend on his endeavors. It does not depend on his good tempers, or good desires, or good purposes and intentions; for all these flow from the free grace of God; they are the streams only, not the fountain. They are the fruits of free grace, and not the root. They are not the cause, but the effects of it.”
