“We should all be proud of what Liberty’s Executive Vice President, Dr. Ron Godwin, and Executive Director of Distance Learning and Graduate Studies, Ron Kennedy, have accomplished in their leadership of Liberty’s Distance Learning Program. I have recently become better acquainted with many of the faculty and staff in distance learning and have been impressed with their professionalism and competence. The enrollment has more then doubled to 26,000 students in less than 2 year without sacrificing quality or academic excellence. Given the performance of our faculty and staff, I am not surprised to learn of how highly Liberty University was ranked nationally today among distance learning programs. High School Diplomas and Dual Enrollment

libertyuniversityonlineacademy_pic1.jpgMore and more teenagers are beginning to earn their high school diplomas through the internet. In addition, more high school students are also earning college credit during their high school days with dual enrollment programs.  Distance learning is often a great option for students who need to stay home for health reasons, desire to work at their own pace, or find themselves unable to concentrate on their work in the traditional setting. Finding an online high school can be a challenge; many schools make big claims but few live up to their promises. Parents generally have two options for their children: private online schools or public online schools.

Liberty University, is the worlds largest private evangelical university, it’s well respected distance learning program offers high school students the chance to earn their diploma completely from home. Most classes are conducted through the Switched on SchoolHouse CD-ROM and will soon be moved to an internet based forum such as blackboard.  This will increase flexibility for students studying in multiple locations or during travel times. The enrollment for Liberty University’s Distance Learning Program on Tuesday 3/25/2008 topped the 25,000 mark for the first time.
Registrar Lawrence Shackleton confirmed the enrollment figures in an e-mail to school officials Tuesday morning.Officially, the enrollment topped 25,000 at 9:13 a.m.

“It’s an exciting day, I want to give tribute to God’s blessing. You can’t humanly take credit for that. There’s got to be God involved in that. It’s such an amazing thing.” said Ronald S. Kennedy, Executive Director of Distance Learning and Graduate Studies.

Two years ago, the distance learning program finished with less than 13,000 students.
“We are looking at 50 percent growth this year and 110% growth over the past two years,” Kennedy said. “We are hoping to surpass 27,000 students by early June.”
“God certainly deserves all the credit. Certainly, we have cleaned things up and made thing a lot more efficient, but only He could have provided the students like we have seen over the past two years. He’s certainly has smiled upon us,” he said.

“It has been a true honor to fulfill the dream of our founder, Dr. Jerry Falwell, to have 25,000 distance learning students. Now we will push forward with our new Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. as we take the Liberty University distance learning program to the next level”, Kennedy said.
